Review by hotel critic
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Quinta Miramar Aparthotel, and I must say, the experience left me with mixed feelings. As someone who often explores eco-lodges in East Africa, I value authentic experiences, and this hotel delivered on various fronts. The apartment we stayed in was spacious for four adults, fully equipped with essentials like cookware, a washing machine, and an electric kettle, making it convenient for longer stays. The outdoor swimming pool offered a stunning 180-degree view of Funchal, perfect for winding down after a day of exploring. I appreciated the free parking in the underground garage, which saves the hassle after a long day of hiking, much like my trips in Kenya. While some areas of the hotel were charming, like the lovely gardens and polished floors, the view from our apartment was somewhat disappointing-a wall blocked sunlight, which felt contradictory to the restful vibe we sought. The location is fantastic for exploring Funchal, with local shops and a nice bakery nearby. Although the on-site restaurants seemed pricey and catered to tourists, the helpful staff made a positive impact on our stay. All things considered, if you're weighing luxury against value, Quinta Miramar offers a fine balance, but be sure to request a room with a view.
